Another season in the books, as they say, the deer hunters are now turkey hunting or fishing, but it will roll back around before we know it. The next BIG BUCK will soon be scored at K&M Coffee, Corks, and Camo in Farmerville by local sports enthusiast & blogger Greg Hicks. This event could not be made possible without each business owner who stepped up and sponsored a division, special thanks to each of you! Season 2023 brought about some exciting moments for hunters in Union and Lincoln Parishes. Some Union Parish natives brought in monster deer from out of state, with smiles spread wide across their faces. Greg Hicks and Justin Bailey burn each other’s phones up during the ‘scoring season’ at K&M, each betting on the next leader! Categories are filled with men, women, and youth each vying for that 1st place spot, which brings home the big money!
This year’s Overall Union Parish Big Buck Winner is Richard McLelland. He brought home the championship belt/title with his Union Parish killed 11-point deer scoring a whopping 162 5/8”. Read Lumber was this year’s sponsor for the 1st place overall spot, giving $1000 to the winner.
Coming in 2nd Overall was Patrick Anderson, winning $500 from Enviro Services. His deer scored 158 4/8”. Third place in the overall bracket was Scott McMullen with a 154 5/8” deer; he won $300 from Union Parish Sheriff Dusty Gates.
Overall Open Division (deer killed by a Union Parish resident outside of Union Parish): 1st place Tim Coggins, 17 point scoring 186 3/8”, winning $1000 from Ludwig Marine. 2nd place Jeremy Newsome, 17 point scoring 179 7/8”, winning $500 from B&H Energy Service owned by Jason Shirey. 3rd place Dedria Brashear, 14 point scoring 177 3/8”, winning $300 from Booth Realty owned by Joe Booth.
New category this year, Healthcare Workers & First responders/LEO: 1st place Hunter Futch, 11 point scoring 150 0/8”, winning $1000 from Union General Hospital. 2nd place Stanley Lenard, 10 point scoring 141 0/8”, winning $500 from Read Lumber.
Union Parish Women’s Division: 1st place Carolyn Cobb, 10 point scoring 145 5/8”, winning $500 from Woodmen Life-Amy Murray. 2nd place was Alexis Dendy, 10 point scoring 142 2/8”, winning $300 from Union Glass owned by Jeremy Skeeles. 3rd place Emily Nale, 9 point scoring 140 4/8”, winning $150 from Cherry’s Lock and Key.
Union Parish Youth Division: 1st place Bradley Herring, 11 point scoring 150 7/8”, winning $500 from Read Lumber. 2nd Place Alexis Dendy, 10 point scoring 142 2/8”, winning $300 from Dan Preaus – Shelter Insurance. 3rd Place Micah Anderson, 11 point scoring 141 0/8”, winning $150 from Tiger Bend Outdoors owned by Peyton McKinney.
Union Parish Archery Division: 1st place Dan Preaus, 8 point scoring 141 5/8”, winning $500 from Greg Russell Construction. 2nd place Emily Nale, 9 point scoring 140 4/8”, winning $300 from Edward Jones – Chad Farrar. 3rd Place Garrett Perkins, 9 point 126 7/8”, winning $150 from Sevin’s Cajun Restaurant.

Lincoln Parish Women’s Division: 1st place Heather Crawford, 10 point scoring 135 0/8”, winning $500 from Louisiana Land & Homes owned by Shane Yates. 2nd place Danae Best, 9 point scoring 131 0/8”, winning $300 from B&H Energy Services owned by Jason Shirey. 3rd Place Sonya Kile, 10 point scoring 120 5/8”, winning $150 from Ellis Law Firm owned by Phillip Ellis.

At the end of the night a drawing was held for $1000, sponsored by Bricks Towing. This drawing has every person’s name in it that came in to have their deer scored at K&M by Greg Hicks.
