The Farmerville Jaycees are delighted to unveil the 61st Annual Louisiana Watermelon Festival poster, graciously hand-drawn by Dianne Nale Anders and proudly sponsored by Union General Hospital. This year’s poster holds a special dedication in honor of the late Mr. Rickey Morris.
Rickey Glynn Morris, born June 25th, 1959, passed away on May 23rd, 2017, at the age of 57. Raised in Springhill, Louisiana, he graduated from Springhill High School in 1977 and later attended Louisiana Tech University. In 1978, his family moved to Sterlington, Louisiana, where they established a successful grocery business. Rickey was known for his friendly demeanor and his trademark question, “How’re you?” He married Annamari Albritton in 1983, and they had two daughters. Rickey was deeply devoted to his family and active in his community, serving in various leadership roles. He was a champion of Farmerville and Union Parish, serving as President of the Jaycees, Chair of the Louisiana Watermelon Festival, and a member of the initial Union Parish Tourist Commission. He cherished his many relationships in this community, including those at the Farmerville Church of Christ, where he was an active member. Rickey’s genuine goodness, integrity, and unwavering faith touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on his community.
