Investigation Underway After Gunshots
Reported in the Courthouse Area
On the night of December 22, at approximately 11:00 PM, eleven gunshots were heard near the Union Parish Courthouse. Deputies from the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office (UPSO) and officers from the Farmerville Police Department (FPD), who were patrolling nearby, immediately responded to the incident.
Following the gunshots, an alarm was triggered at the Mini Mart Gas Station near Popeyes. Upon arrival, officers observed a broken front window at the Mini Mart, but found no bullet casings in the surrounding area. This led investigators to suspect the damage was caused by a stray bullet.
Additionally, a bullet hole was discovered in the wall of the adjacent O’Neal Gas Building.
Approximately 30 minutes later, officers located 11 bullet casings near the intersection of Martin Luther King Avenue and Ruston Street, which is believed to be the origin of the gunfire.
At the time of the incident, law enforcement received only one report from a concerned citizen, who suggested the gunshots may have come from the Hickory Street area. A search of Hickory Street yielded no evidence.
No additional reports were received from the public, and the investigation remains active. Authorities are working diligently to identify those responsible for the incident.Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
